WHAT IF LOVE LASTED FOREVER

Love is one of our most intense emotions, second only to
hate--the total opposite. Love comes in a variety of forms,
depending on the relationship. Of course, there is always
the discrepancy of "loving someone" and "being in love"
that you have to deal with. Finding the difference between
the two has always been hard for me. I do know what love
feels like though. I once loved a girl so deep that I
thought she was my everything. She was the sun that
brightened everyday we shared. I was truly in love with
her.

Sadly, as I write this, however, I no longer feel that
love. I always wonder why a love so strong couldn't last
forever. But then I think of my son, whose never-changing
love is truly the wind beneath my wings. Corny? Yes. But
the love we share is stronger than anything I've ever felt
in my life. It's a different kind of love than the love I
had for the girl, yet it is as strong, or maybe, even
stronger.

I believe that if love could last forever more people would
be falling in love. People wouldn't have their guards up so
high, shielding themselves from any type of emotional
interaction. "Catching feelings" would be cool, not
forbidden. If we all believed that a love once-found could
last forever, there would be a hectic search for Mister or
Misses Right, not Mister or Misses Right Now.

Love is a feeling that the best and most fruitful
relationships are based. Everyone deserves to know how good
it feels to be in love with someone. Even though I
understand why things change, I still wonder what if love
did last forever.
